I'm pretty new to Amateur radio but have been interested ever since I got my hands on my first crystal radio back in the 70s.
I am a "tech geek" by trade and hobby, been working IT since the '80s, currently working datacenter design and large scale compute infrastructure.
Other interests include Blacksmithing, Scuba diving, and flying Gyroplanes (at least I used to)... Oh, and I can't forget my dog, wonderful Mini Australian Shepard named Bandit.
I currently have an Icom ID-51A Plus and am leaning the D-Star system. Lots of tech crossover in HAM, should keep me busy for a while.
I now run an ICOM ID-5100a mobile in the car and have an IC-7100 in the shack. I put a TRAM 1480 dualband antenna on the roof for VHF/UHF and a G5RV Jr for HF. I have hit repeaters over 100 miles away using 5 watts on 2m and have been experimenting with WSPR on HF and made "contacts" all around the world including England, Austrailia, Japan and South America.
I am learning HF and enjoying experimenting with Digital both in UHF/VHF and HF.
If you made it this far in my profile drop an e-mail and I would love to try and make a contact on HF if possible.
