Ham Member Lookups: 2048

Greetings from South Florida. My name is Al.

*  Mark your calendars: The Florida QSO Party 2017 – April 29 & April 30.

*  Please support WRTC-2018 which will be held in Germany in July 2018.

    Go to WWW.WRTC2018.DE for information.

I enjoy HF and my primary interests right now are improving my CW skills and chasing DX. I participate casually in a few contests but I don't have the rig or antennas for a serious score. I have fun and make an effort to improve my skills and performance with each event. I enjoy contesting and when I have more experience and a bigger budget it is something I would like to do seriously.
I am a member of the Florida Contest Group (FCG) and have learned a lot from being a member of the group. I was a volunteer during the WRTC 2014 radiosport event and it was fun to meet so many great hams and contesters and have the opportunity to observe a few teams operate during the event.

I am a member of the Straight Key Century Club (SKCC) and the FISTS Club. These are both groups that work to preserve and foster the use and enjoyment of morse code. I am SKCC #4814 and FISTS #16092.

I live in Weston, Florida, a town in southeast Florida near Miami and Fort Lauderdale, but have lived in Brasil, Colombia, and Puerto Rico over the years.

My Station
My QTH limits me to wire stealth antennas and I operate without an amp, so max output here is 100 watts. I like dials and buttons and boat anchor gear. My primary HF station is a Kenwood TS-530s with an OCF dipole wire antenna hung at 25 feet. I am not setup for digital modes. I spend a lot of time working in front of a computer and for me relaxing is grabbing a microphone or key for ssb or cw contacts. (Update Feb-2015, I am now the happy owner of a hexbeam. My A/B comparisons show it to be a LOT more quiet than my OCF wire. Signal reports are better and 17M actually seems to exist now).
QSL Information
  • I load ALL of my QSO data to ARRL's LotW system at least once each month. If you use LotW, please submit our QSO information.
  • For a QSO made during a contest, I will upload to LotW and eQSL, but only mail a QSL card upon your request or if I would like to receive your card.
  • For contacts within North America, I will reply to all QSL cards received. A SASE is apppreciated but not required.
  • For DX contacts, I will send my card by buro or direct, as per your QSL info here in QRZ.
  • I will always mail a QSL card for any contact that makes the request, and reply 100% to any QSL cards that I receive in kind, by buro or direct.
  • If anyone who requests a QSL card does *not* recieve a QSL card from me (or other desired confirmation such as LotW), please send me an e-mail and I will resolve promptly.
Thanks for stopping by my qrz.com webpage.
