As member of the Anderson Radio Club, I was the Manager for N4AW's Special Event Station in memory of SK Steve Foster (N4SZ) from July 15-July 21.  Ten N4AW Special Event Operators made contacts with over 900 stations on 20 and 40 meter bands.  Each station contacted will receive an N4AW QSL card.  All  QSL cards sent to Anderson Radio Club will be forwarded to Kathy Foster (N4MHG).  More information about my experience running the the N4AW Special Station can be read in the July issue of the Anderson Radio Club's website (www.andersonradioclub.com) in the Editor's Comments section.

(I had activated 72 National Parks with National Parks on the Air traveling to many states from the east coast to the west coast.   It's alot of fun visiting the National Parks and then for a couple of hours having QSOs with stations all over the country.

I like to be called Margie.

PERSONALIZED QSL CARD

If you would like one of my personalized QSL cards, I would be happy to send you one, after you and I make a QSO contact either by HF or DStar.  Just send me an email at margiespang@att.net to     arrange a day and time for us to talk on the air.  I, too, would like to have your personalized QSL card to add to my QSL quilt.  As a QSL newcomer, I hope to work as many states on the air as the 47 states that I traveled to in my motorhome.

As a sentimental keepsake, many ladies like to work on a patchwork quilt, but for me I prefer working towards a patchwork of QSL cards. My goal to complete my QSL card quilt is to work one station from each US state and request the station's QSL card.

Before I began my QSL quilt, I needed to create a personalized QSL card that would be light hearted, eye catching and say something about me.  While I was browsing the internet for ideas, it was when I came across Hamtoons (hamtoons.net).  After consulting with Hamtoons cartoonist Jim Massara (N2EST), it was a few weeks later that Jim created and designed his original art work into images of myself, my motorhome and my dog, Skipper. (My apologies to my hubby Gary and primary RV driver that he was not in the cartoon--he'll have to get his own QSL card).

(Primary photo) I won the door prize of an ICOM D-STAR HT with RTS programming kit at the January 17 2015 CSRA (GA-SC) D-STAR University one-day workshop in Aiken South Carolina. I am currently working with a DVAP Dongle, my laptop and DStar radio.  Waiting for the antenna to be mounted 40 feet from second story house so I can work the D-Star gateway accessing local DStar repeater.

I am Editor of the Anderson Radio Club's Newsletter www.andersonradioclub.com.  In 2016, the Anderson Radio Club will be celebrating its 50th anniversary!

My other radio interest is the ISS and other orbiting satellites.  No TX yet, but a few RXs. HRD (Ham Radio Deluxe) great satellite tracking software.  Fun watching the simulated ISS orbiting the globe. Astronaut Gary and Astronette Margie at Halloween Wedding in Roswell, Georgia!

Recently, I  received the 2015 "13 Colonies Special Event" Certificate in the mail   I worked all 13 States as well as the Liberty Bell during the Fourth of July weekend.  First time, I have ever worked HF except for a few contacts I made for the Anderson Radio Club's Field Day this year.
