Ham Member Lookups: 6059

Long time electronics and IT guy. Finally got around to getting my Technician license in May 2013 and my General in July 2013. Currently studying for my Extra exam which at this rate will be in 2014.

Starting out like many new hams with a simple 2M HT, my first radio was Yaesu FT-250R HT.  My second, a Yaesu FT-990.  I bought a Baofeng UV-5R which is an incredible radio for the price.  I was given a Hustler 5-BTV vertical from an elmer in my club.  I finally got it up in time for the 10M contest in December 2013.  I made 48 contacts.  Among them were several in South America and 1 in Africa!

Current Projects:

I'm currently studying and practicing CW. I'm building an arduino-driven CW keyer with a capacitive touch key system.  I'm planning to get a good paddle key and even a semi-auto at some point.

I'm interested in all data modes available including PSK31, RTTY, AFSK, and JT65.  I'm researching CAT options for my FT-990.

Due to covenant restrictions, my antenna plans are limited. Challenge accepted! I'm working on a 40m loop and a simple 2m/70cm vertical dipole. Both will be slim and virtually invisible.  My 5-BTV is less invisible but I am using it in a semi-permanent setup that I can put up and take down when needed.

Look for more updates as I expand my knowledge, privileges and equipment.

God bless and 73.
