KL2A PJ4 Bonaire
PJ4/NL7GP ca. 1990s - Bonaire, Netherland Antilles

Biography:

Licensed since 1984
ex: WL7BEK, NL7GP
Elmers: KL7Y, K7SS, and W7JXY (grandfather)
W7JXY was also W6RST and W7A (?) [need to correct this, it may be K1A or K3A]
He originally acquired a 1x1 callsign as were given to early adopters of ham radio,
when essays were required to pass the test!

Jon was born and raised in (KL7) Alaska. His Grandfather (W7JXY) taught him the morse code at
age 7 and Jon was licensed at 13. At 14, he walked into a Northwest DX Convention in Seattle where
as he puts it: "I met many of the major players in Zone 3, and was hooked, not to miss a major contest
until my 30s!"

Jon is raising his young family at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Utah enjoying the many
Winter Ski resorts and endless trails of Summer.

Let's connect on Social Media: Facebook/KL2A or Facebook Personal or send me an email. Tnx.

Contest Activity - The Highlights

"There have been many years of 48 hours and hard-driving contesting for me but the last decade I have
enjoyed more "fun-mode" operations chasing the fun openings with good radio friends. As the contest
season would have it though, right about mid-October, like clockwork, my radio spirit comes alive
again looking for the next contest season..."

Bold below signifies Records broken at some level or noteworthy "fun-mode" weekends. Example 2016 SS SSB wins Virginia but
the fact it was work to build and install the wires in the trees in the suburbs adds to the mystique.

CW Pile-Up Competition at Dayton by the KCDXC, The Kansas City DX Club.

This event is a lot of fun. You are placed in a room with the best CW ops in the world
and told to copy as many callsigns in a pile-up environment as you can. The guy who
copies the most callsigns without error wins. Some of these guys place well or win
year after year. (VE3DZ, NE, K4BAI, etc.)

CT9M (CT3/KL2A) Madeira Islands Zone 33 for CQWW 2003 and 2004 - lovely people
and QTH. I operated SO2R low power both years here. These guys put up a large M/M station
on the top of a mountain with several towers of stacked yagi's for their SSB fun in October
and graciously allowed me to come over for a couple of November CQWW CW contests.
Thanks to CT3 gents!
