I was licensed in 1963 as a Novice, WN4RXS, in West Palm Beach, Fl, while a sophomore in high school. I upgraded the following year to Advanced Class as WA4RXS. I was a Radioman 2nd Class in the USCG Reserve 1970-73 in Riviera Beach and Jacksonville, Fl. In 1974, as a Meteorology graduate from Florida State University, I worked on the GATE Program based in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. I operated as WA4RXS/6W8 along with a team from the University of Wisconsin. I also operated maritime mobile on the RV Gilliss (U of Miami) during the experiment. After a 26 year hiatus, it was a blast re-discovering the hobby in 2009, using my 1960's vintage Swan 260 &18AVT vertical. I upgraded from Advanced to Extra Class in 2010. Made significant upgrades to rigs and antennas. In 2011, I joined up with the NQ4I M/M team, in Georgia, through my ham buddy of 50 years, Mark  W4SVO (SK ). I shared the mult-op duties during the CQWW SSB/CW and CQWPX SSB contests 2011-2015. I enjoy DXing, contesting, tinkering with antennas, chasing Arctic expeditions, Antarctica bases, Museum Ships, IOTAs and Lighthouses. Member: Florida Contest Group (FCG), TI DX Club Costa Rica, Marion County Emergency Radio Team (MERT). Recently retired in 2015 after 35 years in the electronics industry. More time now to workout, play radio and travel!

Note: A special thanks to my brother, Bill, for machining the pivot assembly and mounting plates, counter-poise truss, house brackets, and the radial rings for the vertical array.

The electric hoist (used as a winch) makes raising and lowering the tilt over a push button task ... keeps you off the tower. Hoist is removed and stowed indoors when not in use.
