From Miami, Florida and lived all over the world working for the Goverment. Retired and went back to work as the Investigative Manager for a Telecom's Corporate Security. Retired for a second time and retired back to Florida but this time on the Gulf Coast side in south west central Florida. Friday night Net Control for West Central Florida Eagle Net on the NI4CE repeater system, ARRL Official Emergency Station, Technical Specialist and Assistant Net Manager for the WCF Eagle Net. Also ARES, SKYWARN member and OES for Hardee county Florida.

I use a FT 400XDR  as my base station but am currently in the process of putting it in one of my vehicles as a mobile and have a dual band chinese 2501 in the other. Have just purchased a FT-897D which will become my base station and help prod me into completing my General.  I am currently running my base station off of a Comet GP-9 which is only 12' off of the ground but having excellent results in hitting repeaters within my coverage area.

Since I first wrote this I have now replaced my FT 400xdr with the FT 897Das my base station,  running off of the original Comet GP9. Installed the FT 400XDR in my Jeep and still working on my General so I can play with the HF side of the FT 897D radio.

Picked up a FT-2dr for  APRS work as an OES and really excited about how well this HT works. It's a bigger learning curve than using a Baofeng but has lots more features. Baofeng is still great for leaving in your vehicle as part of your emergency kit but this one will probably stay with me most of the time.
