I am new to this hobby, it was on my punch list so I bought the books, studied and passed the tests.

I stayed on VHF and UHF until I passed my general then got serious about HF.

I operate mainly from my home in Laguna Hills and portable from my weekend cabin in the mountains.

My interest in radio started when I was in High School and rebuilt a tube shortwave receiver to include a BFO so I could listen to SSB stations. From highschool I went into the Air Force and was trained in electronics, computers and Radar. after my tour in the military I used my aquired skills and had a career in computers until I retired.

My setup at home is a Yaesu 991A with a Discone for VHF and UHF with an OCF dipole to handle the HF duties. The portable transciever is Yaesu FTdx1200 (it has a handle) with a suitable centerfed dipole with paracord and pullies to get it up in the air.

when the bands are not cooperating the car provides some distraction.
