I spent my childhood hanging out with my Dad with his projects of restoring antique autos, reed organs, tracker pipe organs, and radios. He co-founded the Pacific Northwest Vintage Radio Society, worked 40/80 meters with vintage equipment, and designed his own transmitters. He got me started in my engineering career. I studied for my Novice when I was 10 but never got through the code test.

I love hiking and recently joined a trails maintenance group up in the Western Cascades. I was attracted to the backcountry VHF/UHF commercial repeater maintenance, used by the trail team. This also brought me to ARES and the ARRL, and lead to my Technician license in October 2006, General in March 2007, and Extra in June 2008. I respect CW a whole lot but I've never mastered it.

Interests: VHF/UHF repeater club work, Internet VOIP links, PSK-31 on HF, digital modes (DRM), ARES.

Other hobbies: hiking, geology, cycling, music, dance.

My day job is as an embedded operating systems kernel engineer; I've worked on UNIX V7, VxWorks and Linux operating system internals. I have code in several Mars rovers, orbiters, landers, and comet missions - a lifelong dream to be involved in space exploration.
