My first exposure to amateur radio was in the Boy Scouts in the early 60s when I lived in Summit Station, Ohio.

In 1990, I moved the family to a farm in Kentucky. On my birthday 1992, I purchased my first used radio which was a Ten Tec Omni D which I still operate today. The purchase inspired me to acquire a Novice license.

My station today consists of a Kenwood TS850 and a Heil microphone, backed with an Ameritron 811H coupled by a MFJ 962 Turner to a G5RV antenna, which I use on SSB. When I want to turn knobs, I operate a Johnson Viking II transmitter and a Hallicrafter SX-28 receiver on AM. Recently I have been working PSK-31.

My favorite transmitter is a US Navy Collins T-440/FRT-24. The Collins is theft proof because it weighs 1500 pounds. This Collins will keep the shack warm on cold nights when the 4-1000 RF and the two 4-400 modulation are operating.

When not on the air, I spend considerable time walking around the farm talking to the animals and restoring an old 1950 Plymouth purchased in 1969.
