Hello, my name is Mike Oliver and I am a fortunate husband, proud father, and Data Network Engineer for AT&T. I enjoy what my wife says are too many hobbies, including amateur radio, bushcraft and survival, archery, my H2, Instructables, home automation, LED lighting, LEGOs, building/troubleshooting data networks, pushing IPv6 on anyone who will listen, hacking on FreeBSD, enjoying fine cigars, cooking, and much more. I should probably add exercise to that list...

Unfortunately, I don't get as much time with amateur radio as I used to, but when I do I thoroughly enjoy working DX and contests. My interests in amateur radio run wide, including D-STAR, APRS, PSK-31, and CW. I am also very active in my local ham radio club, the Lakeland Amateur Radio Club (LARC), as member of the board of directors, maintainer of  the club's web site and membership database, and member of the VE team.

I have a strong desire to become proficient in CW, but this again takes a dedication of time that, at present, I have chosen to direct toward my young children. When I was young, a failure to grasp CW always prevented me from obtaining my Novice license and thus I didn't get into amateur radio until much later when I discovered the no-code Technician license. Fortunately, either by maturity or my own stubbornness, I was able to grasp enough of CW to pass the 5wpm exam on my way to the Extra class license. Of all the test elements, the CW exam was the most difficult for me. I am grateful now that I was forced to learn CW on my way to Extra and am proud to be a "know code" Extra, even if it was only the 5wpm test.

I look forward to meeting you on-the-air, so until then 73!
