Ham Member Lookups: 1749

I'm glad you looked me up!! :)

You must have heard me being Radio Active.. :)

I haven't been a Ham operator very long. I got my ticket as a Tech at the Cabarrus Ham Fest in March 2016. I up graded to General in April 2016. QTH shack has a HF rig 160 - 6 meter, 2 meter, 1.25 meter, 70cm rigs, DMR rig, a laptop / iPhone with EchoLink and a scanner. I also have a few HT's and a mobile in my truck, (Wouxun quad band mobile).

Back in the late 70's early 80's I was big on the 11 meter (Red Rider). Enjoyed the side band the most. We used the 11 meter base and mobiles then like we all use cell phones today (miss that sometimes). Was in school at the time and not able to move up to Ham equipment. I started seeing call sign tags on my commute to work and it hit me that I wanted to finally accomplice getting my Ham licenses. I currently hold my General licenses and will go for my Extra this winter.

You can catch me on The (undirected) Drive Time Net in the morning and afternoon on the W4BFB repeater 145.230 (Charlotte, NC area). Most of the time I'm on 2 meters W4CHR repeater 145.310, W4BFB repeater 145.230 and 70 cm on the N4HRS repeater system. Check out The Drive Time Net web site at drivetimenet.com

I have a lot still to learn. Hardest things for me so for are not using radio singles / codes that I use daily at work on a business radio. Just want make any since to anyone on ham radio.. :) and remembering call signs and remembering call signs. Have to say that twice... :)

About my call sign - It is a vanity call sign. The ( KW ) is short for Kilowatt which is related to the work I do around electricity for 30 years & counting, and the ( BET ) is simple, it is my initials ..

My wife's name is Donna. I have 3 grown kids - 1 girl and 2 boys, 4 grands - 2 boys and 2 girls. The oldest grand boy has started showing inters in Ham radio too.. :)
