Not too much amazing here. Got my TECH license in 1984 working as Electrical Engineer at Scientific Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia, USA to connect with friends on 2m. No cell phones back in the day.

Faded out of amateur radio over the years. Left the big city for rural life, returned to school, became DVM (you know, an animal doc) so go figure that. So how may vets you know that are engineers? Retired veterinary medicine after 20 year run. Too young to retire for real. Starting systems integration and engineering company, mostly IP based solutions. Doing great, just busy.

Through the years, as rules changed, got to GENERAL (yep, took the 5 WPM code test back in the day). During all these hurricanes, etc we have been having in the SE US, thought it would be a good idea to check my license for 2m, which I hadn't used in a couple of years. Guess what, found my GENERAL license expired but not past grace period, so re-upped my ticket and here we go! May take that last element and get to EXTRA one day.

Never been on HF in my life. Hung out with friends that did. Decided to purchase a HF radio (very interested in emergency work) so Dr. Google and I got together and decided an ICOM IC-7300 was a good choice. Ordered one with a BuckMaster 7-band OFD and off I went. Made a few HF contacts on voice but didn't find the excitement (yet) I was looking for. Maybe I am too computer headed, cause I have to have a computer hooked up to everything. So you know where that went. Downloaded a copy of HRD with Digital Master (which by the way works sweet with the 7300, no interfaces just one regular ole USB printer cable) and off I went again with digital modes. Well only BPSK, RTTY, Olivia, Contestia, THOR and FT8 at the moment, the only signals I have enough sense to find.

But the end of this long story, if you are still reading, hope to catch you on the waterfall with dig mode one day. Captain Dave scared the hell out of me on HF phone, by the way....so off I go on a old (new) hobby. 73's

OCTOBER UPDATE: Took my EXTRA class test 10/28/2017 and passed. Whew, glad that's over with. Will be switching call signs soon.
