My ham shack is located in the village of Point Venture, Texas on the north shore of Lake Travis - about 15 miles northwest of Austin, the capital of Texas.

The home HF station includes the Flex-6500 SDR (software defined) transceiver, a Palstar AT-Auto tuner, PowerMaster SWR Power Meter, Elecraft KPA500 (500 watt) amplifier, a K4KIO six band Hexbeam at 30', an Off Center Fed Windom Style Dipole at 40', a 40 meter delta loop, and either a Yamaha Headset or a Heil HM-10 desktop microphone. Currently using SmartSDR 1.3.8 with the Flex-6500 and the logging program is Ham Radio Deluxe

My "golf cart" HF station includes the Elecraft KX3 QRP transceiver and several PAR end fed sloper dipole antennas. Mobile QRP operations generally originate from our community park overlooking Lake Travis.

The other receivers shown in the photos above include a Drake 2-A, Heathkit HR-10, Hallicrafter S-10A, Hallicrafter S-120 and a Freudensstadt 7. All are in good working condition except for the Hallicrafter S-120.

Besides Ham Radio, other hobbies include astronomy, photography, genealogy, and woodworking.

I have been a Ham since April 11, 2001 when I received my first call - N5UTM. I upgraded to Extra in June 2010 and obtained a new vanity callsign of W5SAT in July 2010. In August 2014, I obtained a new vanity callsign of KY5R.
