On the picture you can see me operating 9A/LA5IIA at the club station 9A7A in Varazdin/Croatia. That's one of the spots I have been fortunate enough to activate through the last 20 years. Most of these trips have been made during work assignments or as ordinary vacation trips. It means that I have not optimized them for radio operations. But I have had some fun on the bands, anyway.

The following ex-calls and operations are logged so far:

LB8QD, SM3/LA5IIA, TY8G, I0/LA5IIA, YU8/LA5IIA, Z38/LA5IIA, LZ/LA5IIA, S5/LA5IIA, 9A7A (guest-op), 9A/LA5IIA, HA/LA5IIA, SV2/LA5IIA,TX8G (FK for DXCC), VK2ITU, EI/LA5IIA, G/LA5IIA, YA8G, YA0J (guest-op), F/LA5IIA, A61AJ (guest-op), EY8/LA5IIA, W2/LA5IIA, K1ZM (guest-op), W4/LA5IIA, 9N7JO (guest-op), T68G, 4U1UN (station manager), XE1/LA5IIA, ET3AA (guest-op), 5H3G, NQ2G, DL/LA5IIA, HP1/LA5IIA, V31IA, LU/LA5IIA, HI8RCD (guest-op), HH2/LA5IIA, W1AW (guest-op), TA3/LA5IIA, HB9EVV, EX/LA5IIA, EA3/LA5IIA, T70A (guest-op), F4WBF, CT/LA5IIA, ON/LA5IIA

All QSL cards go to LA4YW, both direct and buro cards!

For direct QSL requests 1 x IRC is preferred to cover return postage due to the aggravated "green stamp" currency rate. In order to cover postage for a 20g airmail letter, 3 USD is now the minimum required (2 USD within Europe), also partly due to the increased postage rates in Norway. Save some money by using IRC's!

Please note: guest operation QSL's go to the respective hams/clubs who were kind enough to host me and give me access to their station. I do not have cards for these stations, and am not able to confirm the QSO's myself.

Some personal info: 48 years old, residence in Trondheim/Norway but presently (June 2010 - ) working in Geneva with residency on the French side of the border. I operate occasionally from my home village - Afjord, abt 60km NW of Trondheim - where my father (Rolf/LA9VX) has got a nice setup.

Member of LA2T (Trondheim Radio Club Society) and LA8G (Radio Club P35). The latter being a contest station just outside the town. Members are seven friends putting their gear and efforts together instead of bothering our neighbours downtown.

Originally I am educated in logistics and financials at the Norwegian Air Force Officer's Academy. After I left the Forces, I worked several years as a civilian logistics co-ordinator. Beside that job I did part time studies at the Norwegian University of Technology in telecommunications until 1999. Those days I operated a lot from LA1K, the student's radio club station in Trondheim. Since summer 2000 I returned back to the Armed Forces, and was posted at the Balkans as a part of the peacekeeping missions for almost three years. After end of contract spring 2003, I decided to use my civilian education for the first time. I joined a few UN courses in emergency handling and telecom operations and became a member of their standby roster as a Telecoms Specialist. From November 2003 until August 2006 I was posted as the Telecoms Manager at the UNICEF Country Office in Kabul/Afghanistan, where I managed the development and maintainance of their telecom systems all around the country. It brought me to places I never would have imagined that I could visit and I met people with overwhelming dignity and hospitality; I will never forget that time! After that adventure, I was transferred to UNICEF HQ in New York as of Sep 2006, where I eventually became the Station Manager of 4U1UN. As of June 2010, I was transferred to UNICEF HQ (the second one) in Geneva as my new duty station. Meanwhile I have altered my professional career slightly, with MBA studies in Switzerland and subsequent leadership studies in Massachusetts, USA. I travel occasionally to other parts of the world through work, and try to find time to meet fellow hams for eyeball QSO's and to QRV on the bands whenever the circumstances allow me.

I hope to meet you all on the air!

73's de Johnny LA5IIA
