I got interested in Radio in 1979, but always wanted to become a ham, so read the brilliant RSGB book cover to cover on how to pass the RAE, took my Exam at Llandrillo College near Llandudno and much to my surprise passed first time, so obtained the call mw1anu in August 1996, but as much as I love VHF work, HF was always the goal, so got stuck into the morse and passed my morse test first time and got my current call in January 1997.
I have been QRT since 2012 due to taking on the pub as well as working as a contractor in the Oil & Gas Industry.
We have now given up the pub, so have just rebuilt my station, details as follows:
4m station Icom ic7300 and a Powabeam 6 Element 4M6N50U on a 5m boom.
2m Station Either Yaesu FT736R or Kenwood TS2000 and a Diamond X510N Vertical for FM (It,s a 17foot or 5.2m Monster) and a 12 Element Powabeam Ultra DX 2M12N50DX on an 8m Boom.
6m Station Icom Pro III with an M2 6M7JHV 7 Element on a 30foot 8 inch Boom helped with an Acom 1000 for QRO work.
HF Station Icom Pro III with an Acom 1000 Amplifier and Windom wire for the lower bands, but got a new tower to put up and will be using the excellant Optibeams OB11-5 and OB4030.
Always keen to have a chat if DX or just down the road, so please pop in and say hello, especially on the Tuesday Contests. I also use the GW9T Contest call on behalf of Wrexham ARC
