Amateur radio has been a big part of my life since I was first licensed as WN0AXW in 1970 at age 12 thanks to my elmer Richard, W0YZ. I upgraded to WB0AXW about a year later, and then to N0DA when I passed the Extra in my teens. I decided to keep the personalized zero call after moving to Oregon from Colorado back in 1986, even though having a zero call in seven land seems to be rather unsettling for some folks.

I work almost exclusively CW on HF, even while mobile, and usually QRP (or at least less than 12W).  A new Elecraft KX2 (#087) has recently replaced the Elecraft KX3 (#285) as my all time favorite rig both for portable operation and for use in the home shack. It's an amazing little box. Other rigs I own and use are the Elecraft K1 (#653), KX1 (#2743), K2 (#7057), Yaesu FT-817, and if I'm really feeling nostalgic, the Ten-Tec Argonaut 515 (#146).

In the past I have used the KX1 and more recently the KX2 for bicycle touring, both of these rigs are easily packed and do not weight very much.  Add a couple of wires for antenna and counterpoise and you have a station up and running in no time.

Try to listen closely for QRP signals... One of them could be me!
