I was first licensed in 1977 as Novice WD0CWV in central Iowa. Upgrades to General and Extra (with new call AI0Z) followed. I was pretty active in Iowa for many years, earning WAS, WAS (cw), WAC and DXCC. After getting fed up with poor behavior on DX pileups, I changed focus to satellites and was active in Oscars 8 and 10.

While I was in Iowa, my career was as an analytical mass spectrometrist working on enviornmental water and air pollution research. In 1989, I made a career move to CT to work for Pfizer as a bioanalytical chemist, and retired from Pfizer in 2008.  In   2016, made the final (I hope) move back to Iowa where the current QTH is located.


During most of my time in CT, I was focused on the job, so other than being the sysop for the local packet BBS, I was pretty inactive. Lately, I changed to a "1"-land call (N1XK) and have gradually increased my activity.

HF Radios: Icom IC -7600, Icom 7000

Amplifier: Ameritron AL-811

HF antenna's; ,

 80m 1/2 wave dipole at 40 feet
R8 multiband vertical 40-6 m

 

G0KSC 5 element LFA 6m yagi at 40ft

Digital interface: US interface Navigator; software MixW currently running on home built computer.

APRS radio: Kenwood TM-241A
APRS software: UI-View running on a homebuilt system (N1XK-1)

APRS mobile: TinyTrak4 and Icom HT (N1XK-7) or Yaesu FTM-400XDR (N1XK-9)

APRS digipeater running Direwolf on a homemade Linux computer

 

Current operating interest is metor scatter on 6m using WSJT-X software with the Icom 7600;

 

I enjoy chasing LOTW states and occasional DX. Currently having fun chasing 100 countries worked on 80-10. Here is the current (14 Apr 13) count
