My father was a self taught electronics repair technician and I grew up around commercial electronics most of my life and spent many days at his shop. In the late 80's early 90's, I even went to school for electronics to follow in his footsteps. When he suddenly passed away in 1994, I completely lost interest. Fast forward to 2016 and my wife mentions to me about getting licensed for amateur radio as we both wanted something to do together and serve our community. So we both studied diligently together for both the Technician and General exams, and both passed each exam in 2016.

My first exposure to HF was Field Day 2017, and after that I was wore out and at first did not really want something that high caliber again. In early August, I decided to try my first solo contest, which was a disaster, but managed to make a few contacts. Although I was flustered, I was determined to get back on the wire and try again, and have not looked back since. I try to work at least on contest each weekend and love it!!

We are also members of our local ARES / RACES team and work local events as needed. My wife has started to learn CW while I spend what little free time I have studying for my Extra class license.

Thanks for stopping by and reading about my little adventures in amateur radio, hope to work you on the waves some day!!
