Ham Member Lookups: 3560

I've been licensed since 1978. Was 23 at the time and a brand new father. We wound up with 2 and now have 4 grandchildren, the eldest of which has just started college. Time sure does get by us in a hurry.

I have never been an extremely active ham, work and family were and are more important but as I'm now kinda/sorta retired there is more time for this fine hobby. I spent the biggest part of my adult life in the tower construction industry, traveled the country doing tower work and a little bit of time out of the country doing the same. Built everything from a 50' 25G to 1000' Pirod with a 5' face width. I guess I've been on many towers and structures you can imagine and probably a bunch you can't.

I would most likely still be in the tower industry had it not been for a brush with a rare illness in 2010. It's called Guillian Barre Syndrome, a pretty harsh auto-immune illness. I spent near a year  in hospitals and much of that time paralyzed from the neck down. Much better now and even made it back to riding my BMW m/c but tower climbing is sadly out of the question. So now I just work p/t in a local business and spend the rest of my time between my church, grandchildren and my radio hobby. And I am active with our local radio club as well as a repeater association. I'm trying to lend my bit of tower knowledge as best I can. I also work a bit of 20 meters trying to keep up with a cousin in Texas.
