Hello, call me Andy.

News: I am mucking around out there using CW -- lots of fun, but nerve-wracking!  I have 22 CW QSOs, 10 of them DX.

I love DX'ing!  I have 203 entities confirmed, and I'm waiting for QSL cards from 5 new entities (Annobon I., Burundi, Eq. Guinea, Mellish Reef, and Papua New Guinea).

I have DXCC with FT8.

I thank these HAM friends for helping me get started:

1) Glenn May, KT4SP, who lent me a transciever, a power supply, and an antenna tuner when I had no equipment!

2) Howard Hazelrigg, W4PH, who helped me make and string up a center-fed  80-, 40-, 20-meter fan-dipole antenna when I had no antenna, and who continues to give me advice and hands-on assistance, including CW.

3) Nick Andrews, K9GVM, who gave me a SolarCon I-MAX 2000 24' vertical antenna for 10m when I had no antenna for 10, and lately a G5RV.

4) Scott Carter, KW4JM, who gave me much assistance and advice in SOTA activity, and now in CW.

5) Harry Frick, KC4EZN, who got me started in FT8, JT65 & JT9.

6) Ernie Hollingsworth, KC4SIT, who got me started in WSPR.

My HAM history:

2014

18 August, first HAM license, KM4DSU, General Class.  I never used that call.  That same day, I applied for vanity call N4LAG ("LAG" - my initials).

05 September, the FCC granted me vanity call N4LAG.

19 September, I worked my first station, K5P (a special event station in Plano, Texas), using the borrowed equipment and the home-brew dipole antenna mentioned above.

2015

13 February, I bought a TenTec Omni VII, with auto tuner, which is my rig now.

21 August, I passed my Extra Class exam.

04 September, I received my DXCC Certificate.

In November, my HAM elmer W4PH, my XYL, and a neighbor helped me erect a K4KIO hex beam, which has helped me work more new entities.

2016

15 April, I bought a used Elecraft KX3 with auto tuner which I use for SOTA.

2017

26 April, I bought a Drake L-7 from K4JAB.

21 July, I made my first CW QSO!  W4PH, my elmer, was generous enough to log me despite my poor skill.  I am working to improve my CW.

I follow the DX Code of Conduct: http://www.dx-code.org/  See you on the bands . . . .

Good DX & 73,

Andy

DX Code of Conduct

  • I will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot.
  • I will listen, and listen, and then listen again before calling.
  • I will only call if I can copy the DX station properly.
  • I will be sure of the DX station's call sign before calling.
  • I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling.
  • I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before I call.
  • I will always send my full call sign.
  • I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously.
  • I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign, not mine.
  • I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine.
  • I will not transmit when the DX station requests geographic areas other than mine.
  • When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I think he has copied it incorrectly.
  • I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact.
  • I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so as to earn their respect.
