Home QTH - EM57qb - now QRT

My home station is now QRT as I move all transmit operations out to the remote site. I made over 105,000 QSOs from the home QTH.

Now when I operate from home, I will be using a K3/0 Mini and a pair of RemoteRig RRC-1258MKIIs K3 Twin boxes to connect to the K3 at the remote site. Remote control of Yaesu rotators is accomplished with PstRotator software driving Green Heron RT-21 controllers.  For remote antenna switching, I use a Hamation 2x8 switch and ShackLan control software.  I can also remotely control and switch between two different amplifiers--an Elecraft KPA500 and an Alpha 9500.  I use DX4WIN for general logging and N1MM+ for contesting.  MMTTY and FSK are used for remote RTTY keying.

New Remote QTH - EM56px

I have recently purchased 3 acres of land in a remote part of McCracken County, Kentucky (about 10 miles SW of my home QTH).  I am now QRV at the remote site with Elecraft equipment.  Current antennas include a Butternut HF9V vertical, a Mosley TA-63N multi-band yagi at 50 feet, and an inverted L for 160M.  Mosley Pro-67-C-3 will soon be installed on a 80 foot Rohn RSL tower.  Future plans include transmit vertical arrays on 80M and 160M and a four square receiving array for the low bands.  A large 6 meter yagi is also being planned for spring 2018.

DX Operations

I was part of the Voo Doo Contest team operating from Suriname as PZ5V in the CQ WW CW test in November 2016.  We were hosted by Ramon, PZ5RA.  QSL via M0URX.

I operated from Aruba again from May 24 through May 31, 2016 including the CQ WPX CW Contest with Zoran, YU7KW.  See if you are in the log by clicking on the this link: P4/N4QS  My prior operation from Aruba was from May 26 through June 2, 2015 with Dave, NU4N.

I operated briefly from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates using the call A6/N4QS from November 21-22, 2014. It was a part-time, holiday style operation.  I was also part of the Voo Doo contest team at 9K2HN for the 2014 CQ WW CW contest.  The 9K2HN team came in third in the world in the multi-multi category and set the all-time continental record for Asia.

Prior operations inlcude: The Cayman Islands as ZF2DP from February 8 - 11, 2013 including the CQ WPX RTTY contest and Belize using the call V31QS in April 2010 and November 2011.

Contest Operations

I participate part-time in many contests throughout the year -- almost entirely on CW and RTTY, but I try to make a full-time effort in the ARRL CW Sweepstakes and one or two of the major DX contests.  I have been a three time Division plaque winner for the Great Lakes Divison in the CW Sweepstakes in the single op and unlimited high power categories.  In 2016, I placed 7th nationally in the CW SS contest in the unlimited high power category.  You can see recent results by going to the 3830 Contest site and doing a search on my call sign.  I am a member of the Kentucky Contest Group and a lifetime member of the CW Operators' Club #1653.

I was first licensed in 1967 at the age of 13 as WN3HOM (see photo below).

See you on the air!

Dave, N4QS
