Buddipole set up in a 20m vertical configuration with four elevated counterpoise elements.Greetings and 73!

Buddipole antenna in a dipole configuration

My name is Paul and my QTH is in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Although I have been interested in radios for as long as I can remember, I only recently picked up my amateur radio ticket in 2015. Once I got my Tech ticket, I upgraded to General about one month later. I am currently studying for Extra.

My primary rig is a Kenwood TS-590GS running through either a G5RV dipole in my attic, or a mobile Buddipole antenna that I set up and take down as needed.

My other rigs include a Yaesu FT-817ND that I use for QRP HF and repeater VHF activity and a Kenwood TM-D710GA for VHF mobile.

Other stuff I am interested in: Electronics, Arduino and Raspberry Pi microcontrollers, aviation, Linux, bass guitar, and stage PA/Sound reinforcement. I've had my private pilot license since 2013.

Through the years, I have travelled extensively and I have lived in or visited 49 of the 50 US States (Alaska being the one state that I have not visited yet), Canada, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Brazil, United Kingdom, Ireland, Azores, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, Japan, Macau, and Hong Kong. I love to travel and hope to add to this list in the near future.

N4VOA playing bass guitarRecently, I have become fascinated with the FT-8 mode and I have been using it to test various rig, antenna, and power configurations in different bands.

Other stuff I am actively working on: APRS, Zumspot/Raspberry Pi Hotspots, and volunteer/training with Forsyth County NC ARES.
