First licensed in 1969 as WN7MPS at age 14 in Idaho Falls, ID; later upgraded to WA7MPS. Moved to SoCal in 1980 and upgraded to NC6U; later to N6ER. Interests include contesting, DX'ing, Field Day, homebrew amplifiers and antennas, basketball, and piano. Married 37 yrs to Jacquie KI6WRS, and parents of 5 children, with 10 grandkids (9 girls and 1 boy). Employed by The Boeing Company; presently Chief Engineer in the Advanced Technology Programs division in Huntington Beach, CA, with emphasis on unmanned underwater vehicles.

Station #1 is an Elecraft K3/100, P3 panadaptor, W3 wattmeter, homebrew 2x 3CX800A7 10-160m amplifier (1.5 kw), and an M2 KT-36XA 6-el triband yagi, boom loaded for 40m, and a 75/80m sloper from TX-455 tower (55 ft). The homebrew amplifier features auto-tune input using an LDG AT-100 Pro tuner, vacuum variable tuning capacitor and switching relays, and a Peter Dahl power transformer (1800 VAC @ 1.5A CCS). The old TX-455 1.5 ton winch and bracket was starting to deform under the load, so I replaced it all with a new Fulton 2550 (2.5 ton) winch mounted on a flat plate parallel to the tower, and recabled the whole thing.  Antenna selection is via homebrew PIC controller box which allows antenna selection re-programming from the shack, and a TopTen 6-port remote antenna switch.

Station #2 is an Icom IC-7000 to low 20/40 dipoles strung up in a Jacaranda tree in the back yard.

For VHF/UHF, I used a Yaesu FT-8800 and a Diamond X-300A antenna on a 40 ft Rohn push up mast.

I've been playing with SO2R, so my station is built around a YCCC SO2R+ box, which works very well.  I also built a homebrew audio switching  unit that controls mic audio output to radio/PC, headset audio input from radio/PC, and headset audio output to headphones/speakers.  A Yamaha CM-500 headset, my trusty Bencher black paddle, Altec Lansing PC speakers, and a Heil footswitch round out the user interface.

For digital modes, I use a Behrenger low noise USB soundcard on station #1, and a SignaLink USB sound card for station #2.

A Dell 3 GHz desktop PC runs Win10. Daily operation is run with the DxLab application, while contesting uses N1MM+.

Finally made 5BDXCC and DXCC honor roll this year, after nearly 50 years in the seat!
