I became a HAM in 2006 in response to Hurricane Katrina and out of a desire to serve the community in the event of an emergency or disaster.

My stations consist of IC-718, FT-857D, FT-7800, a pair of VX-7Rs and several Bao Feng UV-5Rs.  My home location antennas include a 5BTV, homebrew 80m short dipole, and a home brew copper cactus j-pole.  I mainly operate digital modes

I am an active member of the Radio Club of Tacoma (W7DK), and participate regularly in several nets, including 2 HF nets - W7DK Sunday night 10 meter net on 28.375 at 8:00 PM Pacific Time. I also try to check in to the Alaska Pacific Emergency Net on 14.292, which meets weekdays at 8:30 AM Alaska time. Additionally I am a member of Pierce County ARES/RACES, and have completed the ARRLs ARECC Levels I, II and III courses.  I am a past WWA Section District 5 ARES District Emergency Coordinator.

In 2009 I became a Navy-Marine Corps MARS operator, call sign NNN0HWY/NNN0GCC FIVE and serve those who serve.
