On the 5th of February, 2017 Ferne and I were married on our front porch in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
On 3 April 2012 while taking a tower down I was strapped at 30' when one leg weld broke falling into a 4' tree trunk breaking the hip, pelvis, 6 ribs, shoulder and compound fractures of right elbow.. I found out that my sister had to pay over $6000 for the ground ambulance with a critical care nurse all the way to Denver Health Trama center.
Well my recovery is coming along well. No word yet as to when or if I will be getting a new elbow. I can now reach the handle bars with my right hand unassisted on the Harley. I am riding more now also. I still have a limp and limited use and range of motion with the right arm. Can't scratch my nose or salute my cadets with the right hand. Beats the alternative though. Latest from the doctor is that after I get a nerve conduction test, if I elect to get a new elbow, I will be limited to lifting 5 pounds with my right hand. I am not sure I want to do this now. My bowling ball weighs 16 pounds. My hunting rifle weighs more than that.
I am on 3970 and 3973 every morning with the Eye Bank Net and the Breakfast Club. I am also on the CAP daytime net.
At the end of Feb 2015 we bought a home in Hot Springs, South Dakota. We have moved now. Will spend Thanksgiving in the new house. We are enjoying the new place very much. We are having a 40'x56' building erected in a couple weeks for all the toys. We took the mini horses to the auction and got them good homes. Now all we have to care for are the 5 dogs. They are a little easier to have a friend come in and feed and water them in the kennels when we go on a long ride.
I am enjoying my new 2016 Ultra Limited Lowered Harley. We have been riding the Trike more lately. Ferne has had some blood problems and dizzy spells so she has not been riding her Spyder for a while. She is looking forward to getting the blood problems figured out and getting better so she can start riding her bike again.
I am enjoying my new Icom IC-7300 radio. I am also having fun with the LNR LD-5 QRP radio I bought. I sat on the fromt porch with it and the battery pack in a swing while talking on the YLISSB with a small dipole hooked to the side of the house. What a hoot. Five watts on a battery.
I am no longer the QSL manager for CT1BWW or CT1BWY.
QSL Direct to these calls.
I was first licensed in 1967 as WN9VRR and WA9VRR. After moving to Tennessee with the Navy I changed to WD4HRO. While in Australia with the Navy I had VK6ZDC and on the USS Saratoga I ran patches from the station WB0IGF from the Mediteranian. I kept WD4HRO when I went to Advanced and then Extra but while in Nevada I decided to change again to N7HRO because the DX stations didn't want me checking in with the 7's as a four. My old call, WD4HRO was picked up by the Ham Radio Outlet radio club in VA. I hope they use it well.
I moved from Nevada to Torrington, Wyoming and recently to Wheatland, WY but about April I moved to the ranch in Yoder with my girlfriend. We now live in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Last year one of my Black Labs died in my arms. A week later our first filly was born. One life lost, a new one enters. RIP Lady Girl. I named the filly after my Lab, Lady Girl.
If you plan on a trip to South Dakota drop me an e-mail or call 307-331-3450 cell. The radio at present is a Yaesu FT-920 and a couple dipoles at 20'. It will take a while to get the hi-tower back on the base out back. The guy before left a tower but it will be a while before I get anything up on it. I have started digging the hole for the 70' crank up but then it snowed. Will be a while now. I have the hole down to 4' now. I need to rent a back hoe to go the other 4'. It is hard to climb the ladder out of the hole with a bucket full of dirt and rocks to the front end loader by the hole. Sure could use some help. I will get it done soon I hope.
I also taught Adaptive Skiing in 2005-2009 to the Handicapped at Eldora Lodge near Boulder, CO. Now that I am handicapped my sister wants me to come and use the program as a student.
I am also a Patriot Guard Rider and an Americian Legion Rider. I bought a Harley Softail and since have traded it for a 2010 Ultra Classic. I didn't like the height of the Ultra Classic so two weeks ago I traded up for a 2016 Ultra Limited Lowered. This Harley is low like a Softail. I think I will like this one. It has the new audio and navagation system. So now I need to sell my 83 Honda GL-1100 Gold Wing for $4350.00 obo. The Honda has just over 60k miles. It has a new battery and the tires are still good. It is ready to hit the road for someone who wants a Honda. We bought a Harley Trike and a Spyder. Pictures of the Softail and the Gold Wing are also on BikerorNot.com and my screne name is Studmuffin.
If I ever manage to sell my property in Tennessee I will invest in another airplane. It is a 2.3 acre corner lot in a small Lake subdivision South and East of Sommerville, TN. Taxes are only $36 a yrar. I decided not to live in Sommerville where my property is and moved to Tucson, AZ then to Wenatchee, WA and ended up in Las Vegas, NV where I retired from the Postal Service after 27 years and moved to Torrington then Wheatland , Yoder, WY. and now Hot Springs, SD.
My airport is a 6.3 acre commercial property with a 2000' x 125' dirt runway and a 50' x 64' steel hangar. It would be a great place to build a house. There are four electric billboard signs that bring in $310 a month in rent. The runway is 2000' by 125'. Email me for more information and pictures. It is located South of Torrington about 4 miles right off Hwy 85. I am using it for storage now with this move.
I am trying to learn Ham Radio Deluxe. I have it hooked to the new 7300. I dug out my HCM Heil Mic ready to use on the 7300. I also have the Pro 7 headset.
Catch you on the radio.
