Preferred QSL method is LOTW. I submit all QSOs to LOTW and EQSL. I don't use the "Buro" anymore, so if you want a QSL card, please QSL direct. SASE or green stamp (DX) not necessary, but appreciated.

First licensed (novice) in April 1979, KA7EJD.  Upgraded to Advanced in '81 and Extra in '90. I was inactive for several years, starting around the turn of the century. Now I'm retired and back in it.  Love the digital modes. RTTY was my favorite in the '90s and I still operate RTTY contests occasionally, although I've never submitted an entry. Currently doing a lot of JT65 and the new FUN one, FT8.

When I first got into Ham radio I knew next to nothing about electronics, so I enrolled in an NRI correspondence course for Communications Electronics. Went back to college in the '90s and got two associate degrees in electronics and computer technology. Took the GROL exam while in college, just for the hell of it, and passed (49 out of 50 questions)!  Somewhat regret not going for an Engineering degree. Oh well.

I was an optician for 20 years, then sold the biz and bought a little awards and engraving shop. Much less stress! Sold that in 2015. So here I am.

I like building stuff. Right now simple QRP rigs and filters, and of course antennas.

I have a modest station. Icom IC-72OO  is my current rig, running a horizontal loop around my roof, fed with balanced line into a MFJ 962D tuner. I have an ancient Yaesu FL 2100 amp which I got really cheap from a Merchant Marine many years ago. I don't think he was too good at tuning, because the band switch and RF choke were fried. After replacing those and a new set of tubes, it works great! Nice to have to use occasionally when you can't afford, or don't have room for a nice antenna.
