My son Monte (KG7LSU) wanted me to get into Ham Radio for our 4x4 trips we do every summer. The CB's we had installed in our rigs just were not cutting it when we got separated or got into the trees. So after I realized there were Ham repeaters set up all over the country I got serious about it I got my ticket in February of 2014. I never knew that Ham Radio was so diverse and I am truly loving the discovery. I am currently working on setting up a D-Star repeater at home so I can talk with Monte while he attends college.

Me and My son and a few others have an informal 4x4 club that we try and get together every summer out in Wyoming. We do alot of wheeling and camping as far into the back country as we can get at elevations between 8000 and 10000 ft. We have spent countless hours working on our rigs together to take the punishment the mountains dish out.

I live in Powell Wyoming but I have worked on the North Slope in Alaska for 27 years. I work a 2 week on 2week off rotation.

Well its been a busy year! I along with KG7LSU, W7BEQ, and KE7UJB have got a repeater up on Tatman Mtn in Wyoming. It is a dual mode Dstar/Analog repeater operating on 147.210 + 123khz PL tone for FM and No tone for Dstar. We have a 45 foot tower with a DB220 antenna and a DR-1X repeater running. It is a solar and wind power site. This has been a great experiance and a lot of fun learning and creating. I have also recently upgraded my license to General, so I'm looking at radios and will start playing on the lower bands soon.

Here are a few pictures of the constuction of the site.
