Ham Member Lookups: 1343

Hello, I’m located about 2 city blocks south of the Wisconsin/Illinois state line in the city of South Beloit, Illinois. I’m an active short-wave listener. The shortwave radio hobby was inspired by my Grandmother giving me her National SW-54 radio back when I was 9 years old, and I was hooked from that moment on. I’ve always been interested in ham radio since my father was a ham too, WB9CSS, SK.

I enjoy 80 meters through 70 centimeters. My antenna for 6-meters, 2-meters, and .70-meters is a Comet GP-15 tri-bander vertical at 25 feet. For those days when the 10-meter band is open and happy, I'll use an Antron A-99 vertical, which seems to work well with my setup. For 80-meters through 10-meters is Carolina Windom at 30 feet, that is also is my short-wave antenna too. This antenna is the best short-wave antenna I’ve ever had; I’m hearing things I’ve never heard before. My short-wave receiver is a Kenwood R-5000, for Vhf I use a Kenwood TR-9000. For the other bands I use a Yaesu FT-817 and an Icom IC-718, Azden PCS-7500 radios. Note that the little Yeasu does have a little help with the use of an amp by RM KL-400 for hf, and for 2-meters FM I use a Radio Shack amp.

Lately I have been playing around with the little Chinese VHF/UHF mobile radios that have hit the market of late. I have to say they are fun to play with and are nice little radios. I have the WACCOM MINI-8900, and the Pofung bf-9500 radios running in my shack at all times.

I’m also a Linux/UNIX hobbyist and enjoy playing with computers when I’m not playing with radios.

I hope to hear you on one of the bands soon.
