Originally from the northern suburbs of Chicago (Waukegan / Gurnee), here in Sacramento I don’t chase as many tornados; well until 2011 that is... I have gotten back into Skywarn and registered with the Sacramento NWS office as SA 95. You can find me on the W6AK system of 146.910 and 224.100 for the Sacramento Area Emergency Net (Noon Net), the 223.82 N6NMZ Foloson system that is linked to 224.320 AB6LI Grass Valley system, and some times on the KS6HRP 146.610, 224.720, 462.650 (GMRS - my call is KAF4615) analog repeaters or the 147.675 KS6HRP D-star.
I am the corrdinator for iEARS (Intel Emergency Amateur Radio Service) here in Folsom, CA. The "reboot" of the club is going well with some growing pains. We hosted our first Field Day in 2016 and hope to comtinue having Field Day here on the Intel Folsom campus (dispite the 109 degree day that we had...). Maybe in a year or so there will be a new hang out repeater for me here at the campus. We have looked info System Fusion. We like the fact that it is a mixed mode system, and now that we have a club call (W6CPU) we need to get it on a repeater. We just need to find the funds. Stay tuned.
I have found a new passion, Cal Fire. My wife (KG6QAZ) was able to work with them in 2015 at the Valley Fire in Lake Co. CA. So this year I have been working on gearing up our radios to work with Cal Fire so that when she gets called up again she will be ready. 2016 has be a BIG year for wildland fires through out CA. Hopfully it will be contained this year and next year will be more green and less fire. Remeber what Smokey says "Only you can prevent Forest (Wild) Fires"
