Aloha from Kauai, Hawaii,

I go by Jim

The picture is NH6HI/B located at the Kapaia Power Station in Lihue, Kauai.

The transmitter is a converted J.C. Penny CB Radio with a Pico Keyer at 2 watts into an Antron99 on a 10 foot piece of aluminum conduit transmitting at 28.292.3 MHZ 24/7, 365. The trailer is self contained with a pair of 240 watt photo voltaic panels, a Southwest Wind Power Air 403 wind generator, Cat 8KW 3 cylinder diesel generator with 20 gallon fuel tank, an Outback inverter running single phase 120/240 and 8 huge AGM 12 volt batteries in series/parallel for 24 volts dc. I'm using a 3 amp DC/DC converter to drop the 24 volts to 13.8 volts for the beacon. The Outback inverter and Diesel generator is turned off to conserve fuel and battery power but tested monthly. The photo voltaics and wind generator and battery charging system are fully functional. We occasionally run contests from this location, the last being the Winter Field Day. and ARRL Field Day as NH6JC. The 8 KW diesel generator comes in real handy for running full legal power on SSB & CW. A StepIR on a trailered crank-up 54' tower is usually deployed and wire antennas are also used. Plans for a permanent tower are in the works.
