Greetings from Evans, Georgia, just outside of Augusta, GA, Home of the Master's Golf Tournament.I wasfirst licensed late 2009, but have been working to catch up since then. Always loved radio ever since my Dad brought home a EF Johnson 123A AM rig in the early 70's. Still remember my CB callsign KAAQ4379! I wanted to get into Ham radio even then, but was (too easily) discouraged by the CW requirement and the awe-inspiring boat anchors of the day. Entered the hobby when a friend told me he had just gotten his license, after the CW requirement went away. Lo and behold, I found the love of the hobby had only gotten stronger, and I have worked on and have learned the code. (still a ham fist, however!)

for all the CW purist who bemoan the loss of the code requirement, please think about this. With a HF entry requirement of about 800-1000$, most teenagers won't need any additional obstacles to enter the hobby. Once that investment is made and they have experienced the thrill of communicating with someone thousands of miles away without phone or internet, it seems much more likely a large portion of them will want to learn code. If we want the art and science of Amateur radio to grow, we need the young people! (Besides, who is going to buy our equipment when we're old?!)

I work at the VA in Augusta, Georgia, and my goal is to bring a club station into the VA, where young and old Veterans can enter and enjoy the hobby. We have the elmers, (almost all Veterans themselves with many years op experience) and equipment. Getting through the admin obstacles is the issue! Any advice would be gladly appreciated! 73's!
