The Naturist Amateur Radio Club, NU5DE, was started from an interest of several naturist hams in the Austin, TX area.

The club sponsors special event stations at Naturist events throughout North America. We also support a special event station during Nude Recreation Week, the week after the 4th of July every year.

The club's president is Ben Thornton, NI5B, and the club's Secretary is Steve Bosbach, KW5V. Club trustee / QSL Mgr is N5KF.

The club started in the early 90's, originally using the club trustee's call of KF5KF (now N5KF). We received the current call in the fall of 1997.

For 2016 we were on for the North American QSO Party, CQWW WPX Contests, Field Day, During NRW, the week after the 4th of July and for the Texas QSO Party in September from Bastrop County. Also on during various times all year long typically on Saturday or Sunday. We usually operate from Star Ranch in McDade, TX, about 40 miles east of Austin. We can be found on most HF bands, but primarily on 14.265 MHz +/- QRM.

For 2017 we have been on during many weekends, plus Field Day, AANR Southwest Convention (last week of June), NRW (week after 4th of July) where we just did over 600 contacts, and of course for the Texas QSO Party at the last full weekend of September (becoming one of our favorite contests with nearly 1000 contacts every year).

We will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Star Ranch, our main operation location in August. This will take place on the first Saturday in August. We plan on being on 20M and 40M starting Friday afternoon, through early Sunday morning, Texas time, depending on available operators and band conditions. Look for us on or near 14.265 and 7.265.  You can QSL to N5KF (Club Trustee) or directly to the club address. We will be sending out certificates for this event.

We have won several awards including an award for Most Humorous QSL card from the ARRL West Gulf Division in 2012.

In 2013 and 2014 we had the one of the highest scores for a multi-operator low power category in the Texas QSO Party Contest. We even beat that score in 2015. In 2016 we won 1st place for multi-operator in the TX QSO Party.
