Originally from Dayton, Ohio, I was first licensed as KA8TLS as a Novice in December, 1983.  Upgraded from unlicensed to Advanced class within a year after that.  It took more time for me to get my code speed up, but finally upgraded to Amateur Extra by 1986, and have been NU8H ever since.  I sometimes feel like I'm the last "2x1" holder that is not a vanity call!

I have been getting back on the air over the last 2-3 years, after a long period of inactivity when life in general got in the way.  I'm slowly rebuilding my HF capability, and am "patiently" waiting for the sunspots to come back.

I am currently active on SSB and digital (mostly FT8, these days) on 80 through 15 meters, and you can find me on local Cincinnati repeaters 146.67 (pl123) or 147.24 (pl123).  I'm also active on DMR, and you can often find me monitoring talkgroup 3100, 31665, or 31489.

My current station consists of:

  • Kenwood TS-680s
  • Icom IC-2340H
  • MFJ-949D Tuner
  • SignaLink USB
  • Attic-mounted dipole made from four slinkys
  • Tytera MD380
  • Icom ID-51a anniversary edition HT
  • SharkRF Openspot

I plan to install some outdoor antennas this spring when the weather breaks...  I'm still considering my options, but for the short term, I plan to add to my attic antenna farm a 20-meter full wave horizontal loop.
