Hey there, thanks for checking me out ....

Originally licensed as KF5PX in 1986, l have had a number of different call signs. After moving from south Texas to North Carolina in 2001, I decided I wanted a -4- land callsign and after some effort, was lucky enough to get assigned NZ4D, which is much better suited for CW operation - my favorite HF mode.

My HF station consists of a set of vintage RL Drake T-4XB/R-4B "Twins" in mint condition, with both having matching sets of International Crystals for the 30, 17 and 12-meter original WARC bands.  The antennas utilized are either a homebrewed,  OCF - 450-ohm ladder line fed dipole for 40, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters, or an end-fed, half-wave sloper for the 30-meter band, manufactured by RadioWavz. For the OCF antenna, I also use a Drake MN-4 as a transmatch where needed to bring any minimal reflected RF power back down to zero.

Also, I operate an APRS/CWOP weather station also on a 24/7 basis under the callsign NZ4D-1, with Davis Vantage Pro2 hardware and Sandaysoft - Cumulus software.   The nz4d wx webpage is here: http://nz4d.us  An even greater detail with graphs illustrating this station's historical accuracy, using parallel data developed from close proximity peer weather stations can be seen here: http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/site/AT913   Current radar for my QTH and a surrounding 100-mile radius is shown below.

The photograph at the bottom of the webpage is a picture of a homebrewed VHF/UHF Yagi I occasionally use for working FM Satellites with a Kenwood TH72A.  It is a blast working the ISS, SO-50, LILACSAT-2 and AO-85 with such a simple setup.  My home QTH is grid FM15gn.

Note, as I try to log every QSO on QRZ.COM, including those made via Satellite, I would appreciate your confirmation of our QSO in QRZ.COM if we had a conversation through the birds OR on HF ... although I don't actively collect paper anymore, keeping count online is still fun.

These 4B Line Twins are literally in brand new conditon and work like they were just uppacked from the factory.  As such, I have gradually sold all my other QRO HF gear, and used exclusively these for the past  3 years.

This is what I am working the low orbiting FM Birds with - flat wooden boom stock with the UHF side made of brazing rods and the VHF side made from aluminum screen frame materials. The handi-talkie attached to the wood boom via rubber bands, is a Kenwood TH-72A.
