I started with ham-radio as an SWL OK1-8188 in 1958 under guide of my friend Franta OK1AKJ ...I started my listenning on WWII German military receivers TORNeb,MWEC,EZ6,E10L and E10aK ...since my early days I preferred to listen for CW.I improved my ham radio ability by entering the club station OK1KRS where I worked for many years.I got my ham radio licence class B call OK1DKR in 1969...a few years later I passed exams for highest class which was class A...I build my first TX an VFO+BU+PA with some 10W output and EL81 on PA...my RX in these days was an German E10L band for 300-600KHz,I retuned it for band 1700-2000KHz plus an xtal controlled converter for each of 5HF bands,as antenna I used an 60m slooping wire.Later on I build a bigger gear which was much modern with VFX and so on with an Russian tube GU50 on PA,Russians copy of famous German tube LS50...with such set up and simple Inv.Vees on the top of an high concrete building I worked with over 300 country CW only,I got most of well known awards such as DXCC,WAC,WAS,US-CA later on also the 5BDXCC...I like to work QRP with simple gear,I got an kit from my friend an Heathkit HW-8,very simple gear with direct conversion rx section...with this simple gear I got more then 150 country and I achieved an QRPp-DXCC-TROPHY by K8EEG Ade Weiss.

I like contesting especially those big ones such as CQWW or ARRL DX and so on.At present time I have over 320 DXCC CW country QSLed I am looking for 325 country endorsement .

My set up these days consists of Kenwood TS-590S HF transceiver PWR 100W and YAESU FT-857D PWR100W or less for universal use or camping operation ,ICOM IC-2800 VHF/UHF PWR 50W.For QRP Heathkit Model HW-8 PWR 2/1W,Small Wonder Labs transceiver Model SW-40 PWR 2W and hand heldsTH-F7E plus IC-Q7E...antennas:an Cushcraft Model R-7000 and an sloper 200Ft long tuned via an L-match for lower bands.

As for my profession:I was working as an radioperator at an Gonio Station OKL at Praha-Ruzyně-Airport .Since 1961 I was working as an air-traffic-controller at Area Control Centre Praha at Praha-Ruzyně-Airport which is the bussiest centre in the Czech Republic...since 1985 I became as an supervisor at that centre and finally when I passed 62 years of age I have had to change my duty according to valid rules...not to be as an active controller,I moved for Flight Information Centre to handle general aviation traffic and finally I became an Flow Manager at Flow Management Unit Praha where Iwas coordinated aircraft slots with Eurocontrol Brussels.I was finally retired in 2003.

My other great hobby is an long distance running including marathons...I run nearly every day, this time, keeping in mind my age I reduced my running distance a bit,my usually distance is up to 10km not more.I am still in good shape and so I am taking part in long distance races either on the route or in the country.

To be still in good touch with the world of aviation I have at home an Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX and between my aircraft there are especially those famous Old Birds, mainly propliners such as DC3,4,6 and 7,Constellations all versions,Convairs,Bristols and Curtiss...I am happy Ican still fly at home!

I was married for 50 years but in 2011 my wife suddenly died,we have two daughters and four grandchildren

Thats the story of OK1DKR...
