White Horse Contesters

You could call the OT6M White Horse Contesters a resurection of the dismantled PI4TUE contest station/activities. Before the station at the University of Eindhoven was dismantled end 2014, we have been looking for a contest location where we could continue our love for contesting (as another location on the University terrain was not available). Since we (Aurelio PC5A and Frank ON9CC) had been doing the CQ160CW contests from Frank's station (because it is such a quiet location and we have space to put up 900' beverages!), we rather quickly agreed that would be a good location to continue our contest activities ... and so a new location was found: ON9CC's station in the north-eastern part of Belgium, close to Maastricht (NL), in JO20ws :)

Since the location is in another country, the call PI4TUE could not be used. Hence Frank requested a call for the contest activities from his station: OT6M. Main goal is to build a M/S or M/2 station to participate in HF contesting, from 160m up to 10m. Currently the station contains of the following setup.

Antennas

  • 160m TX: full size dipole, 18m spiderpole vertical and 16 radials (30-40m long) (wintertime only).
  • 160m (& 80m) RX: K9AY, 4 reversible beverages 2x 240m and 2x 300m long, 1 single beverage 240m long (wintertime only)
  • 80m: HF2V, dipole.
  • 40m: Optibeam OB2-40 @ 24m, HF2V, dipole.
  • 10,15 & 20m:
    • Optibeam OB11-3 @ 21m
    • 3 el. SteppIR @ 16m
  • 6m: 3 el. SteppIR @ 16m, Comet GP15 vertical @ 25m
  • 2m: 2M18XXX @ 18m
  • 70cm: Flexayagi FX7044 (2x stacked)
  • 23cm: Flexayagi FX2317

Station:

  • Radio 1: HF/6m: Icom IC-7800
  • Radio 2: HF: TenTec Orion
  • Amplifiers: Acom 2000A, Acom 1000
  • Headsets: Radiosport RS60CF headsets
  • Radio 3: 2m/70cm/23cm: Icom IC-970h

In the pipeline:

  • Replacing the 40m wire dipole by a 2 elements beam. -- DONE ... thanks to excellent teamwork with Aurelio PC5A, Mark PA5MW, Harry PE2HD, and Rens PA3FGA!
  • 26m Spiderpole vertical for 160m (wintertime).
  • Station management by Microham SMD's.

Below you will find a couple of action pictures :)
