I took my radio amateur exam including morse code in late 1983 and was licenced early 1984 as PA3DCU. Being a student in Utrecht, I had little funds to buy expensive equipment "out of a box" and therefore started my home brewing career in our little student flat. I built a tube receiver and the Practical Wireless Severn. In 1985 I received the Kenwood TS830s as a gift from my parents and that rig I'm still using. I started off with much CW on the HF bands, until we moved to Nepal in 1989, without the possibility to get a licence there. Only in 1999, back in the Netherlands I restarted the hobby. Over the years my shack has increased in size and equipment. Now still with the TS830S, also a TS130V (10W QRP), a home brew Norcal Sierra, a Practical Wireless Severn (40m QRP) and the most recent addition, the Flexradio 1500. I built a IRF510 linear amplifier with an output of about 50W (See ARRL Handbook 2000, WA2EBY). Lots of output for 1 euro power mosfet's! Works very well with the Flexradio 1500 (5W output). And I also use a ICOM IC-290E for local 2m chats.

Mostly you'll find me on the HF bands, participating in the PACC, the CQ WPX/DX contests. I'm looking for nice DX contacts and I'm collecting QSL cards of all first contacts with DXCC countries. I received my DXCC PHONE from the ARRL in May 2013 and the DXCC CW in September 2015, and currently working on my 5BDXCC. Still need some 20 countries on 80m! The other bands are ready.

I'm home brewing quite a bit and at the moment I am building a Hartkit HF transceiver (designed by Cor Hartman - PA0CHN) with a Si570 VFO as described by PA0KLT. The project is nearly ready.

After my retirement, I spent a lot of time in France, rebuilding an old barn in de Dordogne. In the back garden there will be on old telecom mast with a variety of HF antennas. The concrete foundation is ready and early 2018 I'll hope to put the mast on it's foundation.

Focus is back to CW and joint the FISTS club, number 17026.
