First radio was a Pupil, built by me and Kees PA5XM. With fresh batteries one could just hear am stns on 80mtrs with that little RX. That's how we got in touch with local hams PA0PDG (sk) and PA0DVM and got involved in ham radio. I am a morse code enthusiast and learned the code at the age of 12. First shortwave rigs: WS19 and home made 0-V-1 and 1-V-1's. SWL, VERON, NL-844 from 17 May 1960 on. CW speed was improved by listening every evening (in the early sixties) to station 2GF on 3.050 MHz.

Guest opr of PI4HAL.

From 1963 to 1965 I was communications specialist (SPECCOM, class SC64-4)(cw, tty, crypto) in the RNLAF. We used BC-191/mod and huge Cossor T-1509 cw/am transmitters (with 813 in PA. Wkd fb on 14 MHz!) and Philips BX-925A receivers at RNLAF (cw) stations PEC31 (LETS Arnheim - Signals School), PEC40 (school station /P in Berg en Terblijt), PED30 (112 LUVE at Driebergen-Zeist, tape relay station/teletype route indicator RNFS) and in 1971 Thomson CSF cw/tty/ssb transceiver (wkd fb wid x-tal on 3,5 MHz!) at PEF54 (DELM Rhenen). For teletype we had Siemens T37, T100, T68 and T61 machines. Crypto gear was KL-7/TSEC, Ecolex-IV and Tarolex(TROL?).

About 95% of my contacts are made with CW.
