Personal:
My name is Maarten. I was born in 1979 and I'm licenced since 2007. Since 2012 my wife Ineke and I have a wonderful son Tim and since 2017 a beautiful daughter Yara.

Amateur radio:
My main interests in amateur radio are contesting and ragchewing on HF. I'm new to CW and trying to become more proficient at it. On Oktober 24, 2016 I made my very first CW QSO without the ade of a computer with my friend and Elmer PA0ABM.
I don't like digital modes so phone and CW it is.

I'm proud to be a member of the PI4DX contest group Zeeuws Vlaanderen in the South West part of the Netherlands. Please visit www.pi4dx.com or look us up on QRZ.com.

My first Elmer was Jan PA3EGH but due to my carier in Royal Netherlands Air Force I never got round to doing the exam and getting my ticket. Later I met Johan PD2DX and Wino PA0ABM. They infected me with the contesting bug. Together with Johan PD2DX I joined the PI4COM contestgroup Oude Maas and I learned lot about multi operator contesting. Guys like PA3EWP, PA1AW and PA7FM were great contesting Elmers. Please pay them a visit at www.pi4com.nl.

For many years my wife and I went to Denmark for our summer holiday. During one of these holidays I met the guys from the OZ5GX club in Seaby, North Jutland. Since then me and some of my friend (PD2DX, PA1SVM, PA0ABM and PA7JWC) have been visiting Denmark for our anual ham radio holiday. In the past we joined the OZ5GX group for the IARU Region 1 fieldday which was a lot of fun.
During our visits in Denmark we are very fortunate to be able to stay in the summerhouse of one of our Danish friends. He and other local amateurs always help us set up our station by providing towers, cables and equipment. True ham spirit!

Station/Equipment:
I have build a small but comfortable shack in the garage. At the moment the antenna consists only of one end-fed wire for meter. I plan on installing something better in the future but with two young children, a career in the Air Force and a volunteer fire station to run, spare time is a rare commodity.

The transceiver I use is an Elecraft K3 in combination with a Heil Pro Set plus headset. For now I'm using a Kent TP-1 iambic paddle for CW.

QRL:
1996 until 1999: Royal Netherlands Army Combat Engineers
1999 until 2001: Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) Fire & Rescue Service at Soesterberg Air Force Base
2001 until 2011: RNLAF as an instructor at the International Fire & Rescue Training Center at Woensdrecht Air Force Base
2011 until present: RNLAF as an On Scene Commander for the Fire & Rescue Service at Woensdrecht Air Force Base

Other hobby:
Besides amateur radio I also spend a lot of time with the volunteer fire department in my hometown Krabbendijke.
