I started out in Amatuer Radio with my friend Bill (VO1OR) and Lloyd (VO1SS).Bill got me interested listening to his Short Wave radio. I took the course in1986 in Twillingate, Newfoundland. Since than, I have been having a blast, especially on CW, my favorite mode. In Newfoundland,VO1 was popular in most of the CW contests, and managed to get over 2000 QSO's in a couple WPX contests. Back than, VO1 usually drew a crowd. I still have my VO1SF callsign, which I am going to still use when I can get a station set up back home.

After the Cod Fishery collapsed back in the early 1990's in Newfoundland, my job at the Fish Processing Plant was over. I took a Tractor Trailer course and eventually moved to Ontario. I drove Tractor Trailers for over 10 years, mostly in Ontario and Quebec, with a few trips to the USA. In 2005, my company offered me a Dispatch job at Head Office. I have now moved to another position with my company, and I am now an Account Coordinator for the past 7 years.

I am married to a beautiful lady Lillian since 2001, and we have 1 daughter, Tamara. She is certainly Daddy's girl as you can see from our picture (same picture will be found on my QSL card (QSL card print by UX5UO))!

I am now living in Brampton, Ontario. I have a Cushcraft A3WS and A4S with a Alpha Delta dipole for 30M up to 160M, with a Kenwood TS-590s. I work mostly CW, some SSB, and Digital (PSK31, RTTY and JT Modes). I use the Signalink USB and Logger32 combined to generate my signal.

Currently I am working on my DXCC and WAS awards in LOTW.

2016/17 - Tamara's 6th year with Gold Ice. She moved up to the Juvenile Division. In 5 competitions, they earn 3 Gold and 2 Silver Medals. Biggest accomplishment was at Winterfest 2017, where they were the first Team to win Gold from her club, and the first Ontario Team to win Gold in 7 years. What a feeling!!!
