I've been interested in ham radio since my teens but never got around to getting on the air until a ham license examiner friend prompted me to take the exam in 2006. Voila - here I am.

Started with VHF/UHF on an HT and a year later moved to HF with a Yaesu FT-897 100w transportable rig. (It has internal batteries and a handle but weighs enoughto make your arms longer.) Unfortunatly, my QTH requires stealth antennas in the attic and is very RF noisy but I do get out to opeate portably and very much enjoy our hobby.

Several years ago I acquired a Yaesu FT-817 for portable QRP operations and my arms have retreated back into their shoulder sockets.

Now I'm retired and I've become hooked on the ability of low power and acquired the Ferrari of QRP radios, the Elecraft KX3. My portable operation is now 80% of my operating on HF.
