update summer 2015 ..

2304 beacon was added, 120 degree sectioral antenna hroz polirized, covering abt 150 miles wide pointed towards Montreal report that it has been heard in Vermont by W1ghz and N1jez.

the beacons are up and running once again, thanks to thegenerous offer to host ve2fut beacons at the ve2rcs 6m (50.033)beacon site we were able to get everything operational in a matter of hours.

-Antennas and feedlines were mounted on an H frame and hoisted abt 35ft on an available tower.

-the radios were installed in shelter , feedlines routed to equipment rack. Great team work, ve2xx ( myslef) did the tower work , Randy VA3NRN ground crew and DC hookup, Rene VE2UG, swept the antennas and did the final hookup.

In the first few days we have had reports of being heard on most anywhere from Ottawa to NW Vermont .

Many thanks to Ray VE2HMA  and Richard for giving access to their  VE2RCS site  to promote the hobby

Beacons are located on Mount Sutton @ ~2600ft ASL

144.280 MHz (2 m CW) 10w turnstile
432.328 MHz (70 cm CW) 8w into x dipole
1296.325 MHz (23 cm CW) 5w into an alford slot antenna

operated by the ve2crg Granby Quebec Radio Club,

Some history

Original 2m beacon was located on Mt Rigaud from 1991-2005 Motorola Micor running 13 w into a phased cross dipole,

Rene ve2ftr provided me with the Micor, Bernie Ve2lc did part of the keying circuit, Nick Ve2hot programmed the keyer, George ve3goc provided a location on Mt Rigaud and ac power for many years and Sinclair Radio provided me with a rock solid antenna x phased stacked dipoles w electrical tilt for Aurora

We had mice which eventually got on the radio and badly chewed the varnish off the transformer, it eventually shorted.

In 2006 after beacon was off the air for almost a year Jimmy ve2jwh repaired and restored the beacon, replaced the antenna and secured a nice location on top of Mount Sutton. The site is primarely maintained by Don Ve2 diw , Jimmy ve2jwh and other members of the Granby Radio club http://raqi.ca/ve2crg/.

The 432 equipment came from what was leftover from the Concordia Radio club beacon which was decommisioned, its call was ve2clo. With permission we merged the equipment and changed the ID to be the same as the 2m one.

In the winter of 2011 Rene Ve2ug ( ex ve2ftr) , built up a 1296 beacon from scratch and designed an alford slot , the alford is being tested in a office building and has been operational since mid 2013

2012/13 was a good year for projects and Rene ve2ug built a keyer for 222 beacon a Midland FM radio given tome by NickVE2HOTa 222 Halo was build up by Grandby club member , this beacon was running for several months in an office building downtown.

replaced the 432 unit which died.the unit had been operational since late 90's , was replaced my a Marconi FM radio, keyer ect was made by Rene ve2ug.

Hopefully in the next months ill have more news and equipment will be in a permament location.

Thanks for dropping by , hope that you find these beacons usefull.

And thank you to those who have dedicated their time and efforts in maintaining these beacons on the air for all of us to use.
