In Feb 1967 Cam Campbell and several amateur met at his place for the purpose of setting up a repeater that could link up his summer home to Montreal - already tried using the two-er from the platform on Rang St-George on Rigaud Mountain with good results. They got together a Canadian Marconi repeater Joe Duncan and Brian Murphy connected to two ground plane antennas. The following Feb It got knowed down when we had a severe ice storm. In 1969 we bought a parcel of 3 lots about 500 feet from the platform. We got an old 80' - 24" tower from Transport Canada when they were de-commissing a nav site in the Montreal West Island. We got the tower up and then welded pipes to the bottom of a Delhi 40' tower and mounted that on top of the 80' guyed tower. Several amateurs built Sinclair folded dipole replicas and we put up two sets of 4 element 2-metre. In 1972 a building was donated to the club(18' X 25').
That antenna, tower, was taken down in 1989 scraped and painted and we had some professional riggers put back up with the 40' section rplaced with a 50' 18" tower. We installed lights blinking out the call sign and last year we discovered the the lights are burnt out.(2011)
Presently we rent out space on our tower to several commercial customers. They end up paying the electric , taxes, maintainance.
