The shack.   K3S/10 (10 watt) and SPE Expert 1.3K-FA amp.

Beach verticals:   SteppIR on the left and 80/160 top loaded vertical is pictured on the right.

80/160m vertical.  Not perfectly straight but it worked well.

80/160 LC Matching unit propped by a discarded tire.  Built by VE3FF

SteppIR vertical.  This time around it was located some 100ft from the water edge.

No contest audio and the entire op appears leisurely, but it was nothing like that.  The music QRM was from a beach wedding party just outside of the shack.

Some pictures from the  2016 CQ WW CW contest:

Waiting for hydro power to be restored.

Another view of the dormant shack without power.

Coax and control cables entering through the hotel room window

SteppIR vertical in the foreground.    18 meter tall Spiderpole is the other antenna used for 160/80

SteppIR vertical EHU wrapped in some nylon bag in hope to prevent sea water intrusion.

160/80 LC matching unit, built by VE3FF, resting on top of rusted car rim I found lying around.  The 12 volt connection is for remote band switching from the shack via 180 foot long control cable.

Another view of a 160/80 fully erected top loaded "T" vertical.

Fishermen's pirogue boats on the water

More fishing boats on the mouth of the river

Torrential rain threatening to flood entire area from the swelling river.

The aftermath.

This two inch long meaty criter landed right on my laptop keybard.  I had to neutralize it with the butt of my flashlight.

Another view of two of the beach verticals.
