I have been licensed since 1983. My first license was one of the very rare (~170 issued) Canadian Digital Class licenses. I spent a number of years playing with packet radio in Calgary and my friend VE6UF and I put up the western end of the Ottawa-Calgary satellite "wormhole" that carried a lot of traffic in the late 1980's.

I have lived in four different Canadian provinces and two different US states over the past 20 years, but I seem to have stopped moving after I arrived in the Puget Sound area of Washington state.

I have many interests and too little time and money to pursue them, but my current affliction is software defined radio (SDR). I had a Flex-Radio SDR-1000, but I sold it and now I have a QS1R "Quicksilver" SDR receiver and an HPSDR Mercury/Penelope combo that is yet to get on the air.

I also have a very nice Drake TR-7A/R-7 combo. I'm just missing a decent antenna at the moment.

I finally got back on the air this year (2009) via APRS, and you can follow me around at VE6VQ-7.
