Alex Schwarz (VE7DXW) is an advanced HAM since 1990 and a graduate of the HTL, Innsbruck. In Austria he held the callsign OE7BBT from 1987 to 1990. He moved to Vancouver (Canada) in 1990 and has since been involved in professional communication systems (LDR trunking) and digital point to point wireless network systems. In 2005 he started work in the Biomedical Engineering Department at C&W Hospital in Vancouver.

He is also, besides ON6MU and VE3NEA, one of the major contributors to the MDSR project. All contributions from HAMs to the project have and will be documented and will be published yearly. The MDSR hardware is easy to build and software is free, flexible and can be adopted to almost any symmetric HF radio. This gives IF SDR performace to your existing hardware at a very affordable price. All you need is the LIF2012(2014) down-converter for RX, which can be ordered from our website.

Radios confirmed and tested include: FT-817, FT-857, FT-897(standard 455k kit), FT-950 ((needs 450k LIF kit); IC-703, IC-7000, IC-7200, IC-756 (standard 455k kit), IC-706 (needs 9MHz LIF kit).

Transceivers that can be used with the MDSR software without kit: IC-7100 (12kHz IF output through extension plug); Kenwood TS-2000 with 12kHz IF tab.

The MDSR (Modulation - Demodulation Software Radio) system has been featured in the QST magazine Jul 2012 and it's development has been published at the TAPR yearly conference in 2010, 2011 2012, 2013  and 2014. This year again, the MDSR has been chosen to be part of the TAPR show and will by in the annual TAPR magazine.
