I am retired from the Vancouver Police Department and the Emergency Operations Centre for the City of Vancouver. Prior to retirement I was in charge of communications and a number of computer systems for the VPD. I was trained in many aspects of emergency planning and operations and was the EOC Incident Commander and Operations Chief for a number of large events. I was also part of the committee that submitted the successful bid to bring the 2010 Winter Olympic Games to the City of Vancouver, specializing in the communications network needed for such a massive undertaking.

In 1998 we successfully integrated an 8-position Amateur Radio room into the new E-Comm building, which provides emergency communications and 9-1-1 service for the Greater Vancouver Regional District, and also houses the City of Vancouver EOC and the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre (www.ecomm.bc.ca).

I was a founding member and Director of the Vancouver Emergency Community Telecommunications Organization (VECTOR), the local Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Radio Amateurs of Canada for the City of Vancouver. I have also served as the Regional Amateur Radio Representative and the local Municipal Amateur Coordinator (MAC) for the British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program.

A 'Ham' since 1994, I enjoy all aspects of Amateur Radio but I am especially interested in emergency communications - see Hamstrung

My home station has a 40 foot tower with a Mosley Classic 33 and a Carolina Windom OCF dipole. I use mostly Icom transceivers but am experimenting with SDR.

I also hold callsign VE7VPU for digital modes and I sponsor callsign VA7EOC, for the City of Vancouver Emergency Operations Centre. I have a previous callsign - VA7VP.

I am currently active with the Surrey Amateur Radio Club www.ve7sar.net. I teach the Basic course and serve as a Director. I have produced a number of club videos, including 'That's How Field Day Goes'. Our club blog is at ve7sar.blogspot.ca

I am also a member and Director of the emergency program amateur radio group (SEPAR) in my home municipality of Surrey, BC. Please visit our web page at: www.separs.net. Here is our public information video.

I am on LOTW, eQSL and the Bureau. I prefer a hard-copy QSL exchange But the new eBabel system shows a lot of promise, check it out at eBabel.net. I will reply to all hardcopy QSL cards sent.
