Welcome to my QRZ page.

January 2017 I have updated all my logs from 2010 to 2016 to Logbook of the world LoTW.

In June 2016 we made a big move to Vancouver Island (IOTA NA-036).  It will take some time to get the towers and antenna up, the HAM shack organized so we are temporarily using a doublet antenna between two very tall trees.

On November 19, 2015 I received my two letter call sign VA7VF.

When I retired from full time work, I volunteered with my community's Emergency Social Support Services. During Emergency Preparedness displays to the community, I met some of the local Amateur Radio operators and became interested in Amateur Radio.

When we had an emergency situation with an apartment fire, I realized how much I needed amateur radio as an additional communication tool.

I obtained my Basic with Honours license in 2010 and started with a D-Star handheld radio. I use this when part of the communications team during sporting events such as fun runs or triathlons or community events such as parades.

Thanks to several super ELMERs in my local radio club, I was able to branch out to HF. During one of our training sessions, I made contact with a rare IOTA. That sparked an avid interest in collecting as many islands as possible.

Thanks to my OM and my Yaesu FT1000, I am into DX contesting and am getting better at handling the pileups.

I have 180 confirmed DXCC and 114 IOTA.  Thank you to those who send their QSL cards to help me get to the next award level.
