I got interested in Ham Radio when I was a Scout. It took me 30 years to find the time to get a licence.

My QTH is in the North of Sydney, 10 minutes from the Harbour Bridge.

I have a wire antenna slung up in the gumtrees at the back of our house which attracts the birds as well as a little DX!

I'm a member of the Waverley Amateur Radio Society, the Wireless Institute of Australia and Amateur Radio NSW.

I love to send and receive QSL cards for new contacts, but won't be offended if you prefer not to send one - that's what LoTW is for.

In 2016 I was involved in inaugurating the Sydney Amateur Radio Ferry Contest on behalf of our club. This unique event attracts hams to the world-famous Sydney Harbour where the object is to make contacts from ferries and wharves using hand-held VHF/UHF radios. This has now become a regular contest and is an added bonus for operators visiting Sydney during March. Details can be found on the WARS website vk2bv.org.

Kookaburras live in the bush behind our QTH. They often pay a visit - particularly when we are having a barbecue.

Club QSL card for activation of the Hornby Light at the entrance to Sydney Harbour for International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend.

I've been involved with fellow members of Waverley Amateur Radio Society (WARS) activating the Macquarie Lighthouse for a number of years. Macquarie is the oldest lighthouse site in Australia and stands on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Here we've used some tent poles (borrowed from the Scouts) to erect masts for a 40M dipole and national flag. Note the skilfully applied lashings - no metal, screws, clamps or nails here!
